Turn on the TV any day of the week and you’ll see an advert targeted towards families.
You’ll see ads for cars, holidays, theme parks, healthcare, and even motorcycles.
Okay maybe not motorcycles, but you get the idea – families are big business in the world of marketing.
But one thing we’ve noticed during our time in the industry is that it’s incredibly difficult to recreate the chemistry you’ll find in a real family. This is especially true when four actors who may have rocked their auditions suddenly have to act like a loving family.
Now, we’re not for a second suggesting that our wonderfully talented child actors aren’t up to the task. Those kids can do ANYTHING. But the truth is that it’s so much easier to hug your real daddy than it is to hug a fellow actor. Everyone knows that, right? That’s why we’re big fans of casting real families to play the roles they were born to play.
The chemistry between the real family members is genuine and it really shines through in their performance. In fact, often they’re not really performing at all. When a child actor laughs with their brother or sister, there’s no acting involved.
For families, it’s a great gig where everyone can enjoy working together and then seeing themselves on TV or in print. More on that later!
For casting directors and production companies, it’s even better.
